PHOTOSHOP WEDNESDAY - REMOVING THOSE PESKY HOTSPOTS 05.28.2008 PHOTOSHOP WEDNESDAY

This should be a useful tutorial for any wedding photographer. Because we aren't always in control of the overall lighting conditions and don't always have a full make-up team close at hand, we can often times get hotspots on what would otherwise be a great photo...here's how to fix that.

ASHLEY & NILS - CANCUN WEDDING 05.23.2008 WEDDING

as the COLDPLAY song goes VIVA LA VIDA! loosly translated, Viva La Vida means Living Life! (right Nils?) if living life is what Ashley and Nils plan to do in their marriage, they certainly started things off right. they threw quite a party at the AZUL BEACH RESORT AND SPA for 30 of their closests friends and family. the ceremony was beautiful and we had a lot of fun running around on the beach the entire wedding party. Ashley and Nils, i was honored to be a part of your incredible day. many blessings on your marriage. my good friend Jason Wells shot with me and we ended up with nearly 6000 images...a tough edit to say the least. here's my favorites from the day:

the rings.

ahhh window light.

this one was inspired by Steven Spielberg

the ceremony location...not a bad spot eh?

this is my favorite of the group shots for two reasons. 1. I love the compositio and 2. the beach walker in his speedo.

i borrowed someones private dock for these next couple of images...thanks...whoever you are.

love the iight in this one.

Ashley looking beautiful...again.

i love this shot of Ashley listening to the toast by her best friend, she is so elegant.

this is what i do when i should be working at a wedding.

one of my favorite things to shoot is details...i always feel like it is the best way to communicate a sense of place.

i pulled Chelsea aside to dial in the settings for my off camera flash and we came away with this great image of her.

and then Ashley and Nils took her spot and stole the show.

a great detail by Jason

for all the photographers out there this shot is done by moonlight. Jason shot it. f-3.5 at 2.5 seconds with 120mm lens, thank you image stabilization and beach chair tripods.

the final dancing shot.

WHAT I DO WHEN I'M NOT SHOOTING 05.21.2008 PERSONAL

i have 2 weddings, 6 portrait shoots and an engagement shoot to post...

yes, i've been busy recently...but not just with work. i thoght before wedding season really got into full swing, I had better do a little playing. So here is what I've been up to.

a couple of weeks ago i headed out to MOAB UTAH, with my good buddies Chris and Charlie for some good ol' fun on the dirt bike. for those of you who care i ride a KTM 520 EXC and it really hauls @%! (at least it did when i sold it this week...gonna get a new bike) here's a few pics i shot with my canon elph:

the first thing you should know about Moab (if you have never been) is that it is beautiful.

this is what some of the riding we do looks like...good times.

the three of us taking a break.

me.

me again...so vain.

Chris rippin up some dirt.

then, one of my best friends, Mike, came out from Tennessee to do some good Colorado fly-fishing. there's a reason you don't see any fish in these pictures. three straight days of fly fishing from Vail to Estes Park produced no fish. needless to say...my friend Mike is never coming back to Colorado. Actually, we found out that their was an earlier than usual run off this year and they are letting tons of water out of the dams...anyhow, better luck next time. it was still fun to get out.

me and Mikey P.

scoping out the creek in El Dorado Canyon

i sure wish my good buddy lived in Colorado...now he never will, 'cuz he can't catch fish here.

MELISSA AND CHRIS - ENGAGED 05.19.2008 ENGAGEMENT

sometimes...you just know. as i sat in the back of the car and listened to Melissa and Chris talk about how they met and the things they love and don't love and a little bit about how they see the world...i just knew. then when i took them up to BETASSO PRESERVE and watched them laugh and play and then just hold each other like they were never going to let go...i knew for sure. i knew that these two are truly in love. i knew that they each cared more about the other than they did for themselves (which is what successful marriages are really all about). i knew that when they finally say "i do" this summer, they will mean in the deepest part of who they are and that just makes me happy. thanks guys for such a fun day. here are a few of my favorites from the day.

EDIT CAPTURE TIME - LIGHTROOM 05.15.2008 PHOTOSHOP WEDNESDAY

hopefully this helps some of you who like me are occasionally disorganized and forget to sync cameras before shooting. please leave comments or any questions you might have.

my apologies for this not working correctly. I have had some trouble getting this uploaded to Cutframe TV and You Tube today, so now it is just an embeded Quicktime video. hope it helps.
